This month, we’re celebrating hands in the earth, stories behind the food, and new ways for you to be part of what we’re building together in Hout Bay. From picking your own vegetables, to meeting one of the the hearts behind the harvest, to closing the loop with compost — it’s all connected.

We’re launching Come & Pick Your Own Veggies at our month-end market on Saturday 28 Feb — and you’ll get to pick alongside Charles, learning more about the produce, the soil and the stories behind what you’re choosing.
A hands-on, connected way to shop. A fresh market experience rooted in community and abundance.

Meet Charles
For those of you who haven’t, meet Charles 🌱
A few facts about one of the strongest hands behind every harvest here at Love in a Bowl… Charles’ favourite part of the work? Planting seedlings and harvesting – watching something small grow into real nourishment for the community.
“Because vegetables are important to our body,” he says, smiling that smile. His personal favourites are beetroot and carrot 🥕 but what matters to him most is knowing the food he grows feeds families in Hout Bay.
Charles’ hope is simple and powerful: “grow more, so we can give more”.

Compost For Sale
Back to the soil, back to each other 🌱 Everything we grow begins here.
We transform food waste into nutrient-rich compost – returning goodness to the earth so it can feed our community again. It’s simple. It’s powerful. And it works.
From compost ➝ to thriving soil ➝ to fresh harvests ➝ to shared meals… this is our circle of love.
We are now able to service our own gardens, donate to our neighbours AND sell directly to our customers at the weekly and monthly farm markets.
This is a clear representation of the growth of our projects, providing another opportunity for the community to support our initiatives, and we’re so proud of every hand that has worked with us to make this happen!
