Hello everyone!
As we settle into the rhythm of the new year, weâre more and more excited for all that 2025 is shaping up to have in store! This summer growing season has been a rewarding one, with the gardens flourishing and our tomato harvest bringing us particular joy this month! But while we too are loving this weather, as we head towards Autumn, with shorter days and cooler temperatures, itâs time to turn our focus to planning and preparing our beds for their winter crops. First, we wanted to share latest news, some exciting developments and upcoming events not to miss!
Our WILD New Entrance đšđ
If youâve passed by our entrance recently you may have noticed the colourful and inspiring new art work gracing our fence! The incredibly talented, and internationally renowned, street artist Falko One surprised us with a STUNNING elephant mural, now there to welcome you all as you enter the farm! We are so grateful for this vibrant and beautifully wild addition to our space, already deemed favoured âpetsâ amongst our team and a bright herd of inspiration as we enter the gardens each day. Thank you, Falko One! Be sure to give them a hoot (or a trumpet) as you pass by!

Volunteer Spotlight: Barbara
We feel itâs important to shed more of a spotlight on our incredible volunteers and thereâs no better to place to start than with wonderful Barbara! Every summer, we are blessed with Barbaraâs time, energy and love. A longtime supporter of all things Love In A Bowl, and especially the organic veggies gardens, she arrives each year with boundless enthusiasm ready to jump in with a smile to any and every task!
This year she was again joined by dear friend Emily, who made this trip even more special by providing soccer kits for a local team, spreading the love beyond the garden and proving the power of community. Seeing the playerâs surprise, excitement and gratitude was a special moment for us all. Thank you, Emily đ«¶
As summer fades we know that Barbaraâs time with us is coming to an end for another year so before she leaves, we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you, from all of us, for everything you do. Your kindness, dedication and loving spirit make a world of difference and we are truly so grateful. Weâre sad to say goodbye and we canât wait to have you back, Barbara!

Another highlight this week has been welcoming 2025âs first group of international volunteers. Their energy and enthusiasm is always truly uplifting and we canât wait to open our garden gates to even more helping hands in the months to come.
Together, we can make a difference.

Januaryâs Impact
With our full team back in action, and the ECDâs we serve open for the year, we were able to make up the numbers even though we missed a few days at the start of the month. As always, our weekly deliveries to Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu ensured that fresh and nutritious goodness was added to the meals of all the kids in attendance – a huge shout out to the ECDâs for all they do too, providing a safe learning environment for the young minds in our community really couldnât be more important, we see you, we thank you –Â and together we managed to provide over 1288kg of vegetables to feed 2690 kids, and thatâs in addition to the 5233 meals made and delivered by our sister organisation, Cook Up. Itâs is also very important for us to make a positive impact on our farm and within our community as much as possible. We are proud to announce we have rerooted 3390kgs of organic waste from landfill and into Circle Of Life.

Our Next Market
Join us on Saturday the 22nd of February for a VERY exciting new concept; the Art Market at Love In A Bowl. In celebration of youth day and the incredible local talent in our community, we are inviting artists to showcase and sell their unique pieces against the vibrant backdrop of our gardens, and of course alongside our organic veggies. Itâs the perfect opportunity to support local artisans while getting your hands on the seasonâs fresh bounty.
If youâre an artist interested in participating, please contact us for details. Donât miss our on this colourful blend of art and organic goodness, come for the veggies, stay for the creativity – or the other way around – we canât wait to see you and enjoy what is sure to be a very special day on the farm.
