Hello Family
Summer is officially here, and the farm is buzzing with life!
We have had such fun hosting groups from the Funda Kunye Early Childhood Development Centres. These educational hubs have been teaching the children about the fundamentals of farming, and their visit to Love in a Bowl served as an exciting, hands-on field trip.
It’s been a privilege to play a part in their education, helping the next generation to understand the journey of food from the soil to the bowl. Keep an eye out for more exciting news and events as we enjoy the best of the summer harvest!
We are excited for our summer crops of tomato, marrow and aubergine – these babies are thriving in the warmer weather and we are amazed at the acceleration in growth of our spinach and other greens as the days get warmer.
Team Spotlight
A few words from our wonderful Ziyanda about how she came to be here – highlights from her journey so far – and what’s most exciting on the horizon.
“When I think back to how I first joined Love in a Bowl, it all started during Covid when I volunteered with Courage to help distribute food relief. Those early days showed me the power of community and how growing food can bring people together.
One moment I’ll never forget was meeting a mother of a diabetic who came to learn how to grow vegetables for her. With our help – seeds, compost, and a little guidance – she now grows her own produce and provides for her family. Moments like that remind me why this work matters.
What makes Love in a Bowl different is that we don’t just grow to sell – we grow to share, support, and uplift our community with fresh, organic vegetables.
Looking ahead, I’m most excited to see our fruit trees finally bearing fruit, a sign of how much we’ve grown together.”

Impact Report
Together, we continue to nurture Hout Bay 💚
This month 8,764 children across local ECD centres received nourishing meals made from our farm fresh veg, and 82,845 kg of organic waste was saved from landfill; transformed into life-giving compost for our gardens.
In addition to the fresh veg donated, our CookUp team prepared 5,010 wholesome meals for the community.
Every seed, every meal, every helping hand makes a difference 🤝
