Hello Family
As we settle into Autumn we’re looking back proudly on all the abundance we’ve been able to deliver and share since the start of summer last year. Seeing the joy on the faces of the children at the Early Development Centres when we deliver our harvests or hand over a warm meal is a constant reminder of the powerful impact we can have when we work together.
There’s something truly magical about witnessing what we can achieve as a community. Each seed planted, each hand that weeds and each delivery made is a testament to the collective care we pour into Love in a Bowl. It’s a reminder that even small acts, when combined, can create significant change and hope to those around us.
This Human Rights Day
The spirit of Easter shone brightly this year through Love in a Bowl, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the amazing support of Woolworths. Your donations brought so much joy and excitement to the children as we embarked on a fun-filled distribution around Hout Bay. Thank you to everyone who helped us share the love and create yet more precious memories in this wonderful community we call home.

All your Easter Egg donations!
March’s Impact
A month of meaningful momentum 🌱
With 1,320kg of vegetables delivered, we reached 4,223 children across the Early Childhood Development centres we serve in March— including 1,466 little ones in Hangberg and 2,757 in Imizamo Yethu. In addition, our sister organisation, Community Cook Up, prepared 5,209 hearty meals, helping ensure full bellies and brighter days.

In the spirit of closing the loop, our Circle of Life composting project diverted an incredible 17,245kg of organic waste from landfills — turning yesterday’s scraps into tomorrow’s soil. Each number is a reminder; small acts add up. This is what collective care looks like 💚
Circle Of Life
Our commitment to environmental sustainability is a core principle at Love in A Bowl and as a result, the Circle of Life composting project has continued to be a vital component of our efforts to minimise waste and enrich our soil naturally. Over the past three months, the project has successfully processed approximately 42 tons of organic waste.

This significant volume highlights the effectiveness of both the system’s ability to divert waste from landfills and the opportunity to create valuable soil amendments that contribute to the health and vitality of our farm. This initiative is not only environmentally responsible but also serves as an educational tool, demonstrating practical solutions for sustainable waste management within our community and is always of much interest to our volunteers who love to learn how they too can be part of the Circle Of Life. To find out more, or to add your organic waste, pop us an email or visit the farm on market days (Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 2pm).
Earth Day 2025
As we celebrated Earth Day this past Tuesday, as ever it is a great reminder that caring for the planet starts with small, consistent actions – like growing (or buying) food locally, reducing waste and nurturing the soil beneath our feet 🌍 🌱
We believe that sustainable growing isn’t just about feeding people today, but protecting the earth for tomorrow. Every vegetable planted is a step toward a healthier planet and it doesn’t just apply to farms like ours, homegrown food can start in a single window pot or a small patch of earth…

… It is our hope that not only we will continue to provide more and more to the communities we serve, but also that we are able to educate and encourage people to use whatever space they have to grow a little of their own. The life lessons involved in tending any harvest go far beyond just the nutrition it provides; responsibility, consistency, patience, care… let the little ones grow!
